Glencar Waterfall

Glencar
A very wet day at Glencar Waterfall. The stream that forms the waterfall comes down the steep side of Benbulbin and enters Lough Glencar a little downstrean of the waterfall. Glencar Waterfall, County Leitrim, Connaught, Republic of Ireland, (Contae Liatroma, Connacht, Éire), August 23, 2012. f/4, 1/60 second, ISO 640.

Glencar Waterfall
The waterfall was flowing well on this day with all the rain. They say it is best during rainy times and this day certainly qualified. W.B. Yeats was inspired by and made this enchanting waterfall famous in his poem, "The Stolen Child". Glencar Waterfall, County Leitrim, Connaught, Republic of Ireland, (Contae Liatroma, Connacht, Éire), August 23, 2012. f/4, 1/60 second, ISO 640.

Downpour!
It is so difficult to capture rain in a photo! This was no "Gentle Irish Rain" - it was a downpour! Glencar Waterfall, County Leitrim, Connaught, Republic of Ireland, (Contae Liatroma, Connacht, Éire), August 23, 2012. f/5.6, 1/125 second, ISO 320.

Crannog
At both ends of this narrow lake there are small islands situated about the same distance from shore that we believe are crannogs. This one is at the east end of the lake near Glencar Waterfall. Other than the general sense of haziness in the photo, you can't really tell this was taken in a downpour. A crannog (Irish: crannóg) is a partially or entirely artificial island, usually built in lakes, rivers and estuarine waters of Scotland and Ireland. Crannogs were built in the water, thus forming artificial islands. Glencar Lake, County Leitrim, Connaught, Republic of Ireland, (Contae Liatroma, Connacht, Éire), August 23, 2012. f/5.6, 1/125 second, ISO 320.

Tullaghan

Tullaghan
While we were trying to find the High Cross, we discovered this place and just had to get a photo. Turns out, we had already driven right past the cross without seeing it and we found it easily on the way back to the highway. Tullaghan, County Leitrim, Connaught, Republic of Ireland, (An Tulachán, Contae Liatroma, Connacht, Éire), August 23, 2012. f/8, 1/250 second, ISO 200.

Tullaghan High Cross
By popular demand! Three kids were playing in the street by the cross when we pulled up. They immediately insisted on being in the photograph, so we got several shots of them around the base of the cross as well as one without them. Tullaghan, County Leitrim, Connaught, Republic of Ireland, (An Tulachán, Contae Liatroma, Connacht, Éire), August 23, 2012. f/8, 1/250 second, ISO 200.
